How to copy weeks without losing the spacing

Copy one block or a whole week and paste it weeks later. Every day keeps its place, and every set and load comes with it.

Four blocks on days 2, 3 and 5 are box-selected, copied and pasted on day 16. They land on days 16, 17 and 19, with the same days between them.

Most programs repeat. The same week runs again with heavier numbers, or the same routine runs every week of the season. Typing it in again is slow, and it’s easy to put a day in the wrong place.

Copy and paste in Coach Reps keeps the shape of what you copied. Here’s how it works, and how to use it without surprises.

What comes with a copy

A copy takes whole blocks, not just their names. Each block brings every exercise in it, with the sets, the reps, the loads and any per-set percentages. Supersets and phase names come along too.

It also keeps the spacing. Coach Reps remembers how many days each block sits after the first day you copied. When you paste, that first day lands on the day you pick, and the rest land the same number of days after it.

Copy one block

Right-click a block and pick Copy Block. That’s all it takes for one.

It’s handy when one day is already right and another day needs the same thing, like a Prep block you use before every lift.

Copy a week or a whole stretch

  1. Draw a box around the blocks

Press on an empty spot in the calendar and drag across the days you want. Every block the box touches is selected.

  2. Add or take out blocks with Shift

Hold Shift and click a block to add it to the selection, or click it again to take it out.

  3. Copy them

Right-click one of the selected blocks and pick Copy Selection. The menu shows how many blocks it will copy.

  4. Check the banner

A banner at the bottom of the screen says how many blocks are copied. It stays until you close it with its X.

A box drawn across the first week selects its blocks. A right-click on one opens the menu: Copy Selection (5), then Rename Phase (5), grayed out because the blocks are of different categories, then Save Selection as Template (5) and Delete Selection (5).

Keyboard shortcuts work too. With blocks selected, press ⌘C to copy, or Ctrl+C on a PC.

Paste on the right day

Right-click the day where the copy should start and pick Paste Here. You can also point at the day and press ⌘V, or Ctrl+V on a PC. The first day of the copy lands on that day, and the rest keep their spacing after it.

So pick the same day of the week the copy starts on. Say you copy Monday, Wednesday and Friday, then paste on the next Monday. The blocks land on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Paste on a Tuesday instead, and they land on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

With the week copied, a banner at the bottom says 5 blocks copied. A right-click on the empty Monday of the next week opens Day Actions, with Paste Here. The window is short, so the menu opens higher up, over the first week.

The copy stays ready, so you can paste it again and again: weeks 2, 3 and 4 in a row, or into next month. Use the arrows beside the month’s name to move to another month, then paste there. You can even switch to another athlete and paste the same week on their calendar.

When a day already has that block

A day holds one block of each category. If a paste would put a second Lifting block on a day that already has one, Coach Reps stops and asks what to do:

  • Combine Exercises adds the copied exercises after the ones already there.
  • Replace Existing puts the copied exercises in place of the old ones.
  • Cancel leaves everything as it was.

The same choice comes up when you drag blocks onto a day that already has that category, or place a template on top of one.

Fix a mistake

Pasted on the wrong day? Press Undo at the top of the calendar, or ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z on a PC). Redo sits right beside it.

You can also select the pasted blocks, right-click one and pick Delete Selection. And your athletes see none of it until you press Deliver to Athletes, so you can try a paste, look it over and change your mind.

Move instead of copy

A copy leaves the original where it is. To move blocks instead, drag them. Drag one block to another day, or select a stretch and drag one of its blocks. The whole selection moves the same number of days, so the spacing holds here too.

Copy or template?

Use copy and paste for the weeks in front of you. If you’ll want the same weeks next season, or other coaches on your staff will use them, save them as a template instead. Select the blocks, right-click and pick Save Selection as Template.

The short version

  • A copy brings every exercise, set and load, and keeps the days between blocks.
  • Paste on the same day of the week the copy starts on.
  • One copy pastes as many times as you need, in any month.
  • If a day already has that block, pick Combine Exercises or Replace Existing.
  • Undo with ⌘Z if a paste lands in the wrong place.
